SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Emergency Manager Regan Smith says Sioux Falls is interested in the investigation into the Copper Lounge collapse and is aggressively assisting OSHA.
At yesterday's briefing, Smith said the city isn't interesed in an investigation because the city is not the lead entity in that effort. He was clarifying today that the city is clearly interested and is executing it's role to the best of its ability.
The city is providing OSHA with all documents and permits related to the Copper Lounge site.
Smith says OSHA has jurisdiction over a death at a private work site.
Smith says OSHA can impose fines of several thousand dollars and months of imprisonment. He says those are much greater than anything the city of Sioux Falls can impose.
Smith say the city is providing OSHA with the needed documentation.
He says the city's main role in the incident is to ensure public safety.
