SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) City officials are already being asked questions about the economic impact of the Sioux Falls building collapse on downtown business. Mayor Mike Huether thinks that's putting the cart way before the horse.
"Before we start talking about impact on retail sales...or someone having to park a little bit farther away for awhile, I think we are still letting the impact of the loss of life and the impact on this family kick in," said Huether at a building collapse update on Monday.
Economic loss during the holiday shopping season and traffic challenges are important questions, but....
"I think we are going to allow about 48 hours or so before we get too in depth on that particular question, and it's not to denigrate it," explained Huether.
Huether said that of the seven emergency situations Sioux Falls has dealt with during his tenure as mayor, this is the first with loss of life. Huether said that the building collapse has had "monster" impact on the entire Sioux Falls region.
