SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Police identify the victim in Sunday's fatal beating at the Union Gospel Mission as 61-year-old Robert Allen Petersen, a transient. Officer Sam Clemens says fellow transient Daniel Obed Murillo is facing fresh charges.
Clemens says Murillo is now charged with manslaughter and second degree murder.
He says an autopsy was performed Thursday and the results were turned over to the Minnehaha County State's Attorney who filed the new charges
Murillo is accused of beating Petersen with a chair. He allegedly continued the beating even after the chair broke into pieces. The police have released no details about what caused this tragic violence other than to say they believe it was unprovoked.
Murillo was originally charged with aggravated assault but Petersen died of his injuries on Wednesday.
