Life-threatening, unprovoked attack

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Police say one transient severely beat another with a chair Sunday afternoon outside the Union Gospel Mission in downtown Sioux Falls.

Officer Sam Clemens says the 61-year-old victim suffered life-threatening injuries.

Clemens says Daniel Obed Murillo is charged with aggravated assault for beating the victim with a chair.

Clemens says Murillo swung the chair so many times at the victim that it eventually broke.  He's accused of continuing to beat the victim with a piece of the broken chair.

Clemens says Murillo walked away from the scene but was arrested a short time later.

Clemens says the victim was attacked from behind.
