SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) Outspoken City Councilor Teresa Stehly is skeptical about the proposed outdoor smoking ban at all public property in Sioux Falls.
"Am I going to turn in John Doe over here, hey, you know call him in, citizen arrest, hundred dollar fine. Smoking is legal!" Stehly said on Thursday's Greg Belfrage Show on KELO Radio.
Smoking would be prohibited at public parks, city golf courses, and outside the Sanford Premier Center and other city-owned facilities. Council could consider first reading of the expanded smoking ordinance early in November.
Stehly calls it a "somewhat heavy handed ban". Although she has her problems with the expanding smoking policy, she didn't actually say what her vote would be.
City Health Officials say the outdoor smoking ban would encourage smokers to quit, keep kids from starting, and cut down on litter with all those cigarette butts.
