SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Eventually, Highway 42, in western Minnehaha County, will be four lanes from the Tea-Ellis Road to the McCook County line.
State engineer Steve Gramm says DOT, the county and the city are holding an open house today to bring the public up to speed on general design concepts.
Gramm says getting the project started will depend on available funding and other private and commercial pressures along 42. He says a lot of it will be dictated on how fast Sioux Falls grows to the west. Gramm estimates the expansion, at the earliest, is seven years out.
The study looked at a range of transportation options including pedestrian, bicycle, transit, freight and automobile.
Today's open house will give the public an opportunity to review general designs. The opportunity to present written comments will be provided. Written comments will be accepted until November 9th.
South Dakota Highway 42 runs west out of Sioux Falls and just north of Wall Lake.
The open house is today at 5:30 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center
