SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The City of Sioux Falls has responded to the $21 million dollar federal False Claims Act settlement that City ambulance provider Paramedics Plus agreed to in a Texas lawsuit earlier this week.

From Jill Franken, the City's Director of Public Health:

"The relationship between the City and our local Paramedics Plus partners has been above board since the beginning of the RFP process and through their current operations. Our local ambulance provider was not involved in the actions that prompted this investigation, nor do we have a profit cap (contractual mechanism to return profits to the system) in our agreement with Paramedics Plus."

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Texas in Tyler said  news release Monday that the defendants allegedly "knowingly submitted claims to the Medicare and Medicaid programs that violated the Anti‑Kickback Statute."
