SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Americans for Prosperity has supported President Donald Trump on tax reform, deregulation and number of other issues
But AFP state director Don Haggar says they can't support Trump on tariffs.
"I'm not certainly going to engage in personalities," Haggar said. "But if a policy or position of the Administration isn't in line with what we think doesn't make sense for the economy and the country, we're going to make that known."
Like tariffs.
Haggar says tariffs on agricultural and other goods are not something other people pay.
"Tariffs really are taxes," Haggar said. "If you Google tariffs or if you look at Wikipedia, they're taxes. We may think they are taxes on other people but they're actually taxes on us."
The group holds a forum at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Sioux Falls entitled "Trade War Hits Home: Tariffs' Impact on South Dakota." The event is at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown at 201 E. 8th Street.
The panelists will be: S.D. Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal, Sioux Falls Chamber CEO Jason Ball, AFP State Director Don Haggar, and SDSU Economist Dr. Joseph Santos.
