SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- At 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 3904 E. 26th Street. Initial reports were that there was a fire in the basement of the single family residential home and that the occupants were out of the home.
The first arriving crew reported smoke and flames coming from the basement of the structure. Crews conducted a primary and secondary search of the home and located a fire in the basement area. SFFR personnel extinguished the fire in approximately 15 minutes. Fire crews immediately established ventilation to remove the remaining smoke and simultaneously conducted an overhaul of the basement area. SFFR crews also conducted a thorough assessment for hot spots for fire extension within the structure.
There were no injuries to the occupants or firefighter injuries. The American Red Cross was notified and offered assistance to the residents who are misplaced due to the smoke damage to their home.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 20 personnel, 5 fire trucks, and 3 support vehicles.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The home did have a battery operated smoke detector. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to have working smoke detectors and practiced escape plan in the event of a fire emergency.
