SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Electronic devices these days sure don't last very long, including, maybe, the big scoreboard at the Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
City Councilor Greg Neitzert was going over the proposed new city budget and was surprised to see about $1 million set aside for possible replacement of the relatively new scoreboard.
"I guess I was just surprised to see a million dollars programmed in ten years after it opened to replace that center-hung scoreboard."
Events Center Director Terry Torkildsen says that ten years is about the life of this type of electronic scoreboard. Since the big board is one of the major money makers at the Denny, they want to be prudent about a possible replacement.
"We want to program it in, but if we feel don't need it. If we are being told that the system is in great shape, we'll push it out a year," explains Torkildsen.
Council has been holding hearings on the TenHaken administration's proposed near-$500 million budget, going over every jot and tittle with department heads.
