Minnesota: when it rains, it pours

LYON COUNTY, MN. (KELO.com) -- Intense rain overnight brought widespread flash flooding Tuesday to southwestern Minnesota.

There were reports of flooded roads, flooded basements and vehicles getting stranded in rising water.

National Weather Service Forecaster Alex Ferguson in Sioux Falls says radar images show a real deluge.

"Anywhere from five to ten inches of rain over parts of Lyon, Murray, and Cottonwood Counties, primarily," Ferguson says one observer reported that the rain was coming down at the rate of three to four inches an hour.

Due to the nature of flash flooding, a road may be closed one hour and then open the next, so please check ahead on road conditions at the Minnesota DOT website:

Ferguson says that since this intense storm came right into southwestern Minnesota from northeastern South Dakota, the Sioux Falls area saw little impact from it.
