SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The new operator of 19 nursing homes in South Dakota, including in Sioux Falls, says they're working to stabilize the operations.

Black Hills Receiver, LLC says the goal is to keep the facilities stable so that the focus can remain on the care of all the patients.

The receivership took over from Skyline Healthcare to avert what could have been a crisis, involving even the lack of food and medical supplies.

An unidentified woman at the Covington Care and Rehabilitation Center on Cathy Avenue in Sioux Falls told KELO Radio over the phone that everything is just fine there. There are about 80 residents Covington Care.

Black Hills is refusing for now what it calls "aggressive media requests" for interviews because it wants to focus on patient care. A spokeswoman says that when "we have information to share, we will be sure to reach out." Kelo.com News wanted to know how many patients are involved, what Black Hills is doing to stabilize food and medical supplies, and if any major changes are planned at any of the facilities?

Skyline Healthcare, based in New Jersey, is in sad financial shape and has had to turn over facilities in Nebraska and other states.

The South Dakota Department of Health says it agrees with the receivership and is monitoring the situation, but as of the posting of this story had not responded to our requests for interviews.
