SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- A construction worker died in a trench collapse late Thursday morning near Bahnson Avenue and Brewster in Sioux Falls.
Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says two men were working in the trench when the sides gave way.
One man was able to get clear. The other was trapped. He was eventually freed and taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will conduct an inspection of the trench collapse and reach out to the parties involved for more information.
Area OSHA Director Sheila Stanley says that in her experience trench collapses are preventable, yet continue to be one of the leading causes of workplace death and injury.
