SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Journalists and Facebook viewers got a three-for-one deal today at the daily Sioux Falls Police briefing.

  • U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons spoke about how the feds will now treat every overdose as a possible crime scene. Parsons talked about how there is a federal law that allows prosecution of people who give or sell drugs to someone who then dies from an overdose. Parsons is currently prosecuting an Illinois  woman who provided heroin to a South Dakota man who died. Each U.S. Attorney's office now has an assistant U.S. Attorney who deals specifically with opioid related crimes.
  • City of Sioux Falls streets director Galynn Huber discussed the difficulties the City faced in clearning snow this weekend and how the battle is not yet over.
  • Sioux Falls Police public information officer went through the daily litany of crimes, including about a seven year old boy who brought a broken BB gun to the playground at Hawthorne Elementary last week. Sioux Falls Police say someone took the gun away from the boy and threw it away. Someone reported the incident and the police recovered the BB gun. Police spokesman Sam Clemens said the boy was too young to be charged with a crime.
