SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) It gets your attention to see a car crash inside the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls, and that's the whole point.

The seriously damaged car is up against a pillar in the mall, surrounded by yellow police tape.

"It's something that will get you to stop in your tracks, that's for sure." says State Public Safety Spokesman Tony Mangan.

He says the realistic display is designed to get the tens of thousands of people that visit South Dakota's largest mall, to stop and think about driving safety. Last year, Mangan says, they had the display outside the mall, but decided to move the crashed car inside for even greater impact.

A similar crash display is up inside the Rapid City Mall.
