LISTEN: USF head football coach on fatal Easter crash

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- University of Sioux Falls football players are trying to come to grips with the sudden death of one of their own.

Head Coach Jon Anderson met with the team soon after the Easter Sunday car crash in Sioux Falls that claimed the life of Courtney Beane, a junior transfer, from Oakland, California.

"We talked and shared stories about Courtney and we laughed, and we cried, and we prayed." Anderson tells KELO.com News.

Anderson says Courtney had an "infectious, positive personality" and had made many deep friendships on the team, despite his short time on campus. Beane was announced as a new team member only in February.

There is an important lesson, as terrible as it is, that Coach Anderson hopes his young men learn from this.

"Life is precious and you never know when it can be taken," so take advantage of every opportunity God gives you, says Anderson.

A second USF player, Jared Brito, a junior from Covina, California, was injured in Sunday's crash and is hospitalized.
