SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Ellis Road on the West-side of Sioux Falls is the flagship street construction project in 2018.  The first phase of the project closes on Monday, March 26, and traffic will be impacted.

The multiple phase reconstruction and expansion of South Ellis Road will be from 12th Street to 41st Street.  Starting Monday, Ellis Road will close between Lancaster Drive and West 26th Street.  Local traffic west of Ellis Road will be provided access at Lancaster Drive, 22nd Street, and Stoney Creek Street.  26th Street, Sertoma Avenue, and 41st Street will detour traffic.

26th Street will be open to traffic at all times during the project.

Joshua Peterson, Principal Engineer-- Project and Construction says, "This project has been a priority for some time, and we are excited to create a modern roadway on the western edge of our city.  Thank you in advance for your patience as we work to complete this project as soon as possible to keep Sioux Falls moving."

The nearly 6,000 vehicles that travel on Ellis Road each day, will likely shift to various new patterns on their way to school, work, and other activities.  Intersections and roadways throughout Sioux Falls will be monitored by the Traffic Engineering team this summer to ensure traffic signals and other streets carry this additional traffic effectively.

The project is scheduled to be completed by late fall of 2018 and is estimated to cost $12.2 million.

The prime contractor is T & R Contracting Inc. of Sioux Falls.
