LISTEN: Sioux Steel invites public input on development plans

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Put a colored dot on a photo if you like a design or fill out a multi-page survey with your preferences and ideas.

They were just a couple of the ways that Sioux Steel--a fourth generation owned business--reached out to the public Thursday to help them redevelop their industrial site near Falls Park.

Approximately 100 people came to Josiah's Coffeehouse downtown to give their input and hear from CEO Scott Rysdon and Jon Jacobson of Confluence, which is working with Sioux Steel in the design of the area.

Jacobson said one of the unique aspects of the project was that it would "blur" the lines between public and private boundaries. Both Jacobson and Rysdon said the new development on the 100 year old site would need to fit in with Falls Park, the bike trail, and the surrounding area.

Several mayoral and City Council candidates attended the open house, as did business people and a few "regular" citizens from Sioux Falls.

The event featured photos of ideas for uses of the area that the public could vote on with their colored sticky dots. Other photos showed the Phase I of the project and possible development plans.
