SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -The Sioux Empire's excessive heat warning increases electric demand and utilities remind customers to make an effort to conserve energy.
MidAmerican Energy issued a heat alert for Thusday afternoon into early evening, asking customers to lower usage, if possible.
Ruth Comer with MidAmerican says there are simple steps your can take to do that.
Comer advises waiting until after 7 p.m. to run heat producing appliances like dryers, set your thermostat to 78 and utilize more fans that are energy effecient.
Comer says those simple steps also help reduce the potential for higher costs.
Meanwhile...heat index values, a combination of high temperatures and humidity, will feel close to 110 degrees today.
Sioux Falls meteorologist Kyle Weisser says highs will peak around 95 today and a few degrees less tomorrow.
Weisser says Sioux Falls should get back into the upper 80's on Saturday but still some 90 degree readings in the Missouri Valley. Overall, however, back to average summertime heat on Sunday.
While highs are forecast to be even lower Saturday, the dew point won't get into the sixties until Sunday morning.
