SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) Ground was broken on Wednesday for Washington Square, what may become Sioux Falls tallest building.
The $30 million eight-story multi-use development will be for working, parking, eating, shopping, and living. It's going in on Main Avenue in downtown, across from the Washington Pavilion.
"Everyone commented on how this project was catalytic and was a new type of product that we haven't seen in Sioux Falls before", says Slater Barr with the Sioux Falls Development Foundation, who was at the groundbreaking.
It took decades to get the vision to this point and now Washington Square Partners, LLC, will start building with hopes of a grand opening in fall of 2017. Barr says there will be up to 100 construction workers on the site when construction revs up.
Barr says residents of Washington Square will be able to walk out of their condo and take in a show at the Pavilion or stroll down on Phillips Avenue.
