SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The distracted driving patrol graduated from warnings to citations for texting while driving yesterday in Sioux Falls.
Officer Sam Clemens says 50 motorists were stopped during the six hour patrol and 20 received tickets for phone violations.
Clemens says textin is just of the things prohibited by ordinance but anytime motorists connect to the internet it's a violation. He says there a lot of things drivers were doing not just texting.
He says the patrol issued a total of 63 citations including speeding, no seat belt, no driver's license and no insurance.
The patrol focused on downtown and 57th and Louise.
Clemens says the distracted driving saturation patrols will not be announced and will continue in the months ahead.
A texting citation comes with a $90 fine in Sioux Falls.
