SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Under the Hood, a call-in program on vehicle problems, started on KELO-AM in 1990 as 30 a minute program.
Nearly three decades later, it is a two hour program now heard in 225 markets. That includes some big markets, like San Francisco and Oklahoma City.
What do the experts hear the most when people call with the car ailments?
"A lot of things are caused by your everyday driving" said co-host Russ Evans on the typical listener questions. "The potholes you experience, the weather you encounter, things that will really wrap around the wheel of a car, that you'll find at almost any repair shop."
KTWB morning man Chris Carter is the hub of the wheel, parsing out phone calls screened by Kristen Hergert. Evans and Shannon Nordstrom are the vehicle experts. Doug Mashek produces the program, which is recorded in the KELO-AM studio.
Evans says it's satisfying to know he and Nordstrom have helped people.
"(To hear a listener say) 'You really helped me out with a car repair, you saved me a lot of money'" Evans said. "That makes us feel really good. that we've got a purpose, more like we had a reason to do it."
The program airs on KELO-AM 1320, 107.9 and 105.1 Thursday mornings at 9.
