Sioux Falls potholes bigger this year

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Pothole stories can be like fish stories in Sioux Falls.

"When the people call sometimes the fish is bigger than when we get out there..." says City Streets Chief Galynn Huber.

But Huber does say that the potholes are bigger this year than in years past and he doesn't know why.

Some of them are real big.

"When you get a pothole by two by three feet and it's six inches deep, that's a big pothole and when you hit that pothole with a tire, you know you've hit it."

In an effort to get them before they get us, Huber is making a special effort this summer to work on road cracks, to try to keep them from turning into potholes.

Share your pothole stories on the city hotline at 60-367-8002. The bigger they are the quicker the pothole crews will be out to fix them.

"When people say that they see a pothole that a Volkswagen could fit in it, we take that kind of seriously," Huber says with a chuckle.
