SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) Police calls are ever rising in ever growing Sioux Falls.
City Police Chief Matt Burns briefed City Council with charts and graphs Tuesday afternoon.
"As you can see in 2015 we had almost 97,000 calls for service," briefed Burns, "I can tell you that we projected easily to hit 100,000 this year."
The number of arrests is also going up from about 8.100 in 2015.
"The trend line is clear. As the city gets bigger and we have more population influx, we are having to arrest more individuals." said Burns, pointing to another of his charts.
Chief Burns and Minnehaha County Sherrif Mike Milstead made a joint presentation to Council to outline how the two departments work together to keep the community safe.
No wonder, the county jail is bulging at the seams. Every arrest made by the City of Sioux Falls winds up in the Minnehaha County jail.
