SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- A run for higher office is probably in Mayor Mike Huether's future, but not in 2018.

With his wife Cindy and daughter Kylie by his side, Huether held a press conference today announcing that he won't be running for any elective office in 2018.

But after?

He expressed interest in being mayor again, or governor, and hinted at U.S. Senator.

One thing is for certain--he'll miss this job.

"There is a finish line," Huether said. "It's no surprise to anyone, and I made it clear, that I would relish the opportunity to continue serving with this team, and with these citizens, and with all of you again as your mayor."

Huether did say he might write a book based in part on his experiences as mayor and personally.

He joked that his wife Cindy told him he needed to do something that got him out of the house and had health insurance.

Mayor Huether Remains “All In” and Will Finish Strong as Your Mayor

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: Today, Mayor Mike Huether announced that he plans to “sprint to the finish line” as your Mayor, tackling as much on the City’s to-do list as possible. He then plans to step back from public service for a while.

“Cindy and I have been honored to share this public service journey with you. Our commitment, God willing and yes, with the support of the people, is that we will serve again. But for now, we will finish strong and then take some time away. This is an agonizing decision, but the right one for us right now. Bless you, Sioux Falls and South Dakota!” says Mayor Huether.

Once his term is over on May 16, Mayor Mike and First Lady Cindy plan to take some time away before working to serve the citizens of Sioux Falls and South Dakota again. However, they will work diligently to serve again if that is what the public wishes.
