When indoor stadiums were in the future

GREEN BAY (KELO.com) -- They call it the Frozen Tundra. Lambeau Field.

The cold weather this weekend brings us back to the time there was a championship game in Green Bay on December 31.

Fifty years ago. December 31, 1967. Cowboys and Packers for the NFL championship. The Ice Bowl.

The temperature at game time was 15 below zero. Officials had to call the game verbally, as the metal whistles would freeze to their lips.

The Packers win the game 21 - 17 in the waning seconds on a Bart Star dive from inside the one yard line.

Glad the Vikings are playing Chicago indoors this weekend.
