Goosing the geese at the Sioux Falls airport

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- They were scaring geese away with air cannons Tuesday near the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.

A goose getting sucked up into an airplane engine is not a good thing, and there are now just too many Canada Geese hanging out in the airport area.

"Geese can strike a windshield and break it, but they can also be sucked into an engine and cause that plane to have to land," explains Sioux Falls Animal Control Officer Julie DeJong.

The air cannons make a loud sound to try to goose the geese to quieter pastures.

The city warned folks living on the north side or who are driving to or by the airport not be be concerned by the unusual noise. The city wants the geese concerned, not you.
