SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Dec. 2, 2016 was a day filled with tragedy, surprise, heroism, and the execution of a great plan to rescue the people and dogs trapped in the Copper Lounge building collapse.
Only you won't be hearing or seeing the City of Sioux Falls commenting about that momentous day.
"Dec. 2, 2016, was a tragic day in Sioux Falls history, and we are proud of how our community came together to support one another nearly a year ago," Sioux Falls Police public information Sam Clemens said in response to a request for interviews with police officials about the day.
"However, City of Sioux Falls officials and employees are unable to comment on the details of that day due to potential litigation and outstanding legal claims still pending. No requests for interviews will be honored at this time," Clemens said.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined Hultgren Construction nearly $200,000 for their role in the collapse. The company is fighting OSHA's fine.
KELO-AM provided live coverage over the air of the rescue attempts that afternoon.
