SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The City of Sioux Falls says that the new parking ramp development downtown will mean 525 new parking spaces, but wait a minute.
City Councilor Theresa Stehly says that's not how the numbers add up when she does the math. She claims that those 525 parking spaces will actually replace 135 existing spaces and that the developer is going to control up to 150 spots for his own use.
"It just blows my mind that we are going to spend $21 million for 200 to 300 new parking spaces." Stehly tells KELO.com News. Councilor Pat Starr also has concerns about the parking space math.
City Council is expected to take the first vote on the development Tuesday evening.
The $50 million mixed use project in partnership with Legacy Development will be one of the tallest buildings in Sioux Falls. It will be near 10th and Phillips Avenue, dubbed the Village on the River. The city proposes to use cash and a bond sale to cover it's part of the cost - approximately $20 million.
