SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- AAA estimates that about 147,000 South Dakotans will travel over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, 3 percent more than last year.
"We believe that this year's increase is being driven by a strong economy and the labor market is good, with rising incomes and higher consumer confidence," explains AAA's Marilyn Buskohl in Sioux Falls. She says that about 90 percent of these travelers will use vehicles to get where they're going.
This is the ninth consecutive year that more South Dakotans were expected to travel than the year before.
AAA projects 50.9 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving, a 3.3 percent increase over last year.
The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is from Wednesday, Nov. 22 to Sunday, Nov. 26.
