Grand boutique hotel announced for Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The 100-year-old Great Western Bank Building in downtown Sioux Falls will be transformed into a 92-room upscale boutique hotel.

It will be called the Hotel Phillips.

Brenda Schmidt with Kelly Inns, Ltd. says the historic lobby will be the centerpiece.

"...With its beautiful high ceilings and its columns and we have a stunning vault that is in the lobby that will take center stage for us." Schmidt tells Kelo.com News that the historic charm will be blended with the latest in comfort and amenities.

The lobby and mezzanine levels will feature a lounge, library, small social room for private parties, small board room, fitness center and spa. The 92 rooms will be on floors 3 through 9, equipped with everything from glass-paneled showers to smart TVs.

"The excitement in downtown Sioux Falls is phenomenal and we just want to be a part of that."

Schmidt doesn't yet want to talk about the actual cost of the extensive renovations required, but it will be significant. They hope to open in December of 2018.

And something really exciting for the future: Schmidt says that one day they may do something on the rooftop with spectacular views over the city and the Big Sioux River.
