WASHINGTON, D.C. (KELO.com) -- South Dakota's Kristi Noem on Monday accused Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee of making political speeches against the tax reform bill she helped draft.
"It was interesting to me to hear some of my colleagues say that this bill was written in the dark of night because I remember clearly over a dozen formal hearings on tax reform that I have been a part of on this committee."
Ways and Means on Monday opened formal consideration of the historic tax package that aims to cut personal and business taxes.
"I've also heard my colleagues speak about not having any input into this and I have been in several meetings that were bi-partisan." Noem continued to insist, even as Democrats asked her to yield the floor.
Congresswoman Noem has promised that committee members will go over the bill "line by line." in the coming days. The Republicans claim that the historic package would increase wages by 3.1 percent, add nearly 1 million jobs and raise the after-tax income of the average middle-income family.
