SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) The Sioux Falls Police Department has created a special position to better interact with the city's growing diversity.

The city's first Community Resource Officer is Cynthia Holmquest.

Holmquest will be the primary contact for minority groups, religious groups, the LGBT community, and other diverse organizations in Sioux Falls. She says they're just like everyone else.

"You just treat them with respect. They get up, they have families, they go to work, they see the problems in our community just like we do, and they're curious. They always want to know what's going on, what we're doing, and what we can do," says Holmquest, who has been with the police department for five years.

Police Chief Matt Burns says the new position will make community policing even stronger in the growing city.

"This is an investment in our community and represents yet a further strengthening of our ongoing pledge to communicate with, serve and protect, every citizen of Sioux Falls."
