July means Sioux Falls road construction

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM) -- You may not be able to get there from here this month because of all the road construction projects going on. 

The City announced seven projects Monday, six of which begin today.

Here's the list.

Road Closure – Marion Road

Beginning 8:30 a.m. today, North Marion Road will be closed between West Madison Street and West Maple Street. Kempf Excavating and Black-Top Paving will be performing utility and paving work. This work is anticipated to be complete by the end of the day on July 7, 2017.

Dakota Avenue Construction

Beginning Wednesday, the alley between East Tenth Street and 11th Street on the east side of Dakota Avenue will be closed to allow construction crews to perform concrete repairs. This work is anticipated to be complete in approximately one week.

38th Street Construction

Beginning today, West 38th Street from Marion Road to Terry Avenue will be closed to allow construction crews to replace the existing water main and reconstruct the street. Work will include new watermain, spot curb and gutter repairs, accessible curb ramp improvements, and new asphalt pavement. This segment of 38th Street is anticipated to reopen in late August 2017.

Main Avenue – Sidewalk and Streetscape

Construction Beginning today, construction will begin on the east sidewalk of South Main Avenue between Tenth Street and 11th Street. The sidewalk will be closed in this area, as will the parking spaces immediately adjacent to the construction zone. Work will include removing sidewalk and installing streetscape amenities. This work is anticipated to be completed near the end of July 2017.

Plateau Trail Construction

Beginning today, South Plateau Trail will be closed between West 47th Street and Essex Drive to allow construction crews to replace the existing watermain and reconstruct the street. Work will include new watermain, miscellaneous sanitary sewer work, new sump pump collection system, street lighting upgrades, curb & gutter repairs with accessible curb ramp upgrades, and new asphalt pavement. Plateau Trail is anticipated to reopen in September.

Street Closure –Bennett Street

Cliff Avenue to Blauvelt Avenue

Beginning 8:30 a.m. today, work will begin along East Bennett from Cliff Avenue to Blauvelt. The street will be closed to traffic. Work will include watermain replacement with spot sanitary sewer repairs. Existing sidewalk ramps will be updated with ADA compliant sidewalk ramps. Utility trenches will be patched with asphalt and the entire pavement section will be milled and overlaid with asphalt pavement. The entire project is expected to be completed by September 1, 2017.

Phillips Avenue Construction

Beginning on Thursday, construction crews will be working on Phillips Avenue north of 18th Street. Northbound and southbound Phillips Avenue will remain open at all times, however lane widths will be reduced at the work zones to allow construction crews to perform concrete repairs. This work is expected to be complete in approximately one week.
