Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - Former city councilor Greg Jamison made his presence known during the city's 4th of July parade, and in the process left no doubt about why he was there.
Riding a street grader decked out with signs reading "Smoother roads ahead. Greg Jamison in 2018," the current State Representative unofficially announced his campaign to replace Mike Huether as Mayor of Sioux Falls. Jamison told KELO.com News that improving the city's streets will be one of his top priorities should he outlast the five other announced candidates and win the city's highest office.
Tuesday's announcement did not serve as Jamison's official campaign kickoff. He called it a teaser and something he did for fun and to start drumming up support for his cause. And if history is any indication, Jamison will need all the support that he can get. He's already come up short in one shot at the high chair (2012, where he lost to Heuther), and no former City Council member has ever gone on to become Mayor of Sioux Falls.
When asked what he would do to top riding a big rig in the 4th of July parade, he laughed and said "could be with a pot hole patcher or something."
Jamison has yet to file formal paperwork to get his name on the 2018 battle, however with his presumed candidacy there are now six names looking to fill Huether's spot in City Hall. The list includes, in no particular order:
- Kenny Anderson Jr. (Former City Council chair)
- David Zokaites
- Nick Weiland (Son of former US Senate candidate Rick Weiland)
- Jim Entenman (Former City Councilor)
- Michael Gunn
- Greg Jamison (Former City Councilor)
