WATCH--The art and science behind the Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM) --With two to three inches of rain Tuesday night in the Sioux Falls area, the water had to go somewhere.

Quite a bit of it is going down the Big Sioux River, including over the Falls of the Big Sioux in Sioux Falls.

So Wednesday, a lot of water was roaring over the falls, particularly for a summertime day.

According to data and graphics from U.S. Geological Survey gauging station on North Cliff Avenue, just above the falls, you can see the correlation between Tuesday's rain and the amount of water going over the falls.

Flow increased from about 700 cubic feet per second Tuesday to nearly three times that Wednesday.
