State universities' tuition to rise

VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO-AM) -- South Dakota universities will increase tuition and fees about three percent this fall. That follows two years of tuition freezes.

The legislature could not find enough extra money this year to fund the freeze for a third year.

University of South Dakota President Jim Abbott says they will make adjustments.

At the same time, the USD Foundation is in the middle of a funding drive called “Onward, The Campaign for South Dakota.”

Abbott says they are ahead of schedule and the fund drive help fills in needed gaps.

Enrollment growth has also been flat at the six universities over the past few years.
