Canton, S.D. (KELO AM) - Morning commuters between Sioux Falls and Canton will have a slight detour on Tuesday after numerous complaints of the heat causing a tar sealant to come loose and stick to passing vehicles.
The complaints started rolling in after 5pm. Several people posted on Facebook that the tar damaged their tires, wheel-wells, even headlights. Some posted pictures of the tar filling in the grooves of their tires, rendering them useless.
KSFY TV reports Officials with the Mitchell Area of the Department of Transportation spent a portion of Monday evening working on the roadway. There's no immediate timetable on when the road will reopen.
The closure begins at 273rd street, five miles south of the 57th street intersection in Sioux Falls, and goes to Highway 18.
