PIERRE, S.D. (KELO-AM) -- Some of the candidates running for Attorney General in South Dakota have been critical of a justice reform bill that was passed last year. That bill diverts many nonviolent offenders to rehabilitation and education programs.
Governor Dennis Daugaard says the criticism is expected.
Daugaard says the view is different once you are in office.
The governor says even with the reforms, people who deserve it, go to jail.
The bill was passed to avoid building a new state prison.
