PIERRE, S.D. (KELO-AM) -- A South Dakota legislative committee, considering legislation to open up a number of closed lakes, put off final action until next week.
The committee took public testimony at their meeting Wednesday in Pierre.
Landowner Mike Schmidt from Moody County says the bill needs to be very clear on enforcement.
Senator Brock Greenfield says a bill approved in special session this summer may not be the final answer.
Representative Spencer Hawley of Brookings suggested the delay on final action.
The committee decided to meet again on June 2nd. A special session of the legislature could be called for June 12th.
The lakes were closed following a state Supreme Court ruling on access to flooded land.
