Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - Today's edition of the Wall Street Journal came with South Dakota flair.
During her weekly appearance on KELO Radio's It's Your Business, Jodi Schwan described a story the famed financial press ran about our booming mansion market - or homes selling for $1 million or more.
The story, which is only available to subscribers on the Journal's web site, cites several reasons for the boom in seven figure housing, none of which should be a surprise to anyone who lives here according to Schwan. "The growth of the medical and financial communities, and the overall friendly economic climate for businesses and individuals," she said. The story came with a video tour of a pair of million-dollar homes in the town.
Friday's interview also broke word of a homeowner in Sioux Falls selling their $900 thousand home for one valued at $2.9 million - which Schwan says at the very least is the top of the Sioux Falls housing market, and could very well be a record.
Friday's story marks the second time in three months that the WSJ has sung the praises of Sioux Falls. On March 17th they published a story on the booming job market in town, calling us a "financial and health-care powerhouse in the middle of cornfields." Before then, the last time you would see any mention of Sioux Falls in a New York publication was a 2014 story in the NY Times about the unlikely partnership between the NBA D-League's Sioux Falls Skyforce and parent club Miami Heat.
