Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - A Sioux Falls man has received a mandatory life sentence for conspiracy to distribute meth.
Fifty-five year old Shawn Russell Sorensen was found guilty of trying to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and felony firearms possession. The charges began with a package that was intercepted by the postal service containing a half pound of cocaine and ten pounds of meth. The package was linked back to Sorensen, and it was revealed he had received several similar packages in the past. After a routine traffic stop he was also found to be in possession of firearms and ammo.
Sorensen has two prior felony drug charges on his record, triggering a mandatory lifetime sentence for these latest charges. He will also serve jail time for the firearms charges and pay a fine.
A jury found Sorensen guilty of all charges last October after a three day jury trial.
