SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) A record number of volunteers collected a record amount of trash during the 4th annual Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup.
The City says that nearly 500 volunteers pulled in more than 6,500 pounds of litter on Earth Day, April 22.
The army of volunteers worked from nine different locations along the Big Sioux River and Skunk Creek.
City officials want to give a shout out to all the organizations that pitched in: Confluence, Health Management Partners of South Dakota, Smithfield, Raven Industries, Howalt and McDowell Insurance, Sioux Steel Company, Sierra Club, HDR, US Bank, FedEx, and the South Dakota Canoe and Kayak Association.
Special recognition goes to Nyberg’s Ace for generously donating all of the supplies for the event.
