SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) The pro-pot petition drive for South Dakota kicks off Saturday afternoon at the downtown Library in Sioux Falls.
Backers of the proposed 2018 ballot issues will be collecting signatures, registering voters, selling campaign t-shirts and accepting donations. A number of activist groups are hosting the event, which begins at 4:30 p.m.
One of the proposed measures would legalize medical marijuana, the other would legalize pot for recreational use.
If this campaign succeeds, South Dakota will basically be much like Colorado, where marijuana is legal. Nearly 14,000 valid signatures will be needed to get the measures on the 2018 ballot.
