WASHINGTON, D.C. (KELO AM) South Dakota U.S. Senators John Thune (R) and Mike Rounds (R) promise that Neil Gorsuch will be confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court one way or the other.
Senator Thune says it's the Democrats who are breaking precedent with their filibuster.
"In the previous two Democrat presidencies, in their first term in office, they each got two vacancies and each got two Justices confirmed in all four cases without a Republican filibuster. That, to me, ought to be the precedent that gets adhered to and followed," says Thune.
Senator Rounds wants everyone to remember that it was former Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid who first used the nuclear option.
"Based on this new precedent set by former leader Reid, the Senate is likely to confirm Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court with a simple majority vote," said Rounds on the U.S. Senate floor on Wednesday.
Rounds insisted that it was Reid "who broke the rules to change the rules," setting a precedent that the Republicans will likely use to break the filibuster.
Thune is confident Republican leaders have the votes to push through changes that will allow Judge Gorsuch to be confirmed by a simple majority of 51 votes.
The Democrats keep bringing up how lame duck President Obama's nominee Merrick Garland was treated by the Republicans, who refused to hold a vote or even confirmation hearings.
Republican could 'go nuclear' on Gorsuch as early as Thursday, but no later than Friday of this week.
