SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - An Animal Control investigation into the mis-treatment of a puppy resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old Sioux Falls man for simple assault on law enforcement.

Sergeant Sean Kooistra says Animal Control went to a home on Duluth Avenue to investigate a report of grabbing and kicking an 8 month puppy.

When the officer approached the scene, three individuals came up to her and became disorderly.  She called police for backup.

After police arrived Brandon Floyd Barrett confronted them and is accused of becoming disorderly and eventually scuffled with officer before being brought under control.

As they were getting Barrett secured he allegedly spit at the officers.

Barrett was arrested for obstruction, resisting arrest, simple assault on law enforcement and slimming.

Animal Control says the puppy was not injured and was allowed to stay in the 18-year-old's home with his parents.
