City searching for mosquito workers

Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO-AM) The Sioux Falls Mosquito Control Program is seeking teammates to join our summer treatment program. This opportunity is for seasonal, nonbenefitted positions involving 28 to 40 hours per week. Starting wage for these positions is $11 per hour. 

Members of this team carry out a wide variety of duties that include:

  • Applying approved treatments to control mosquito activity in water.
  • Surveying and locating areas in which mosquitoes are likely to breed.
  • Collecting contents of designated mosquito traps in and around the city.
  • Distributing educational materials or DEET in a variety of locations or public events. (Evening and weekend hours may apply.)
  • Performing general cleaning/maintenance of equipment and vehicles/ATVs.

Applicants must be available on occasional evenings for spray activities. This job requires walking, sometimes in rough terrain or adverse conditions and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Applicants must be organized, able to work independently, and be able to complete required treatment documentation. 

Interested parties need to be 18 years of age or older. Applicants must be able to obtain a G-9 certification through the Department of Agriculture. This is an open book test paid for by the department upon hire. A valid driver’s license is also required.
