SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A jury yesterday found 22-year-old Jared Jerome Stone guilty of second degree murder in the shooting death last April of Baptise White Eyes outside the Lucky Lady Casino.
The jury did find Stone not guilty of first degree murder. But the jury did him guilty of manslaughter, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A sentencing date has not been set. Stone faces the possibility of a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Stone and White Eyes knew one another and had a history of not liking each other. Stone was a regular at the Lucky Lady and was playing video lottery when White Eyes entered the business around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22nd.
Jurors saw surveillance tapes of the men arguing and White Eyes hitting Stone knocking his glasses off. Stone then hit White Eyes and the two men went outside where Stone pulled out a handgun and fatally shot White Eyes.
Stone's lawyers maintained that the shooting was self-defense because he believed White Eyes had a handgun.
