Long-shot bid runs for governor

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Terry LaFleur says he's the "people's candidate" in his recent announcement to run for governor of South Dakota.

The Minnehaha County Republican says he's striving to get on voter's radar for next year's election.

LeFleur says he's not a career politician like the other Republican contenders in the race.  He says the position should not be bought by big money.

He says "our fiduciary duty as an elected official is to the voters who put us into that office.  They voted for us because of our stance, our platform.  And it's not right to run on a platform just so you can get elected and then turn around and turn your back on the people."

LeFleur says it's time to do things a little bit differently in our state.

He says he wants to do what's right for every single resident in the state, "man, woman and child."  He says you can look at his platform that has a lot of "holy cow and what if ideas."

LaFleur says he understands how hard it is to work day-to-day to scratch out a living.  He says generally the elites that are in charge, all they want is our vote.  "They don't want to do anything else for us.  I mean they promise this, and they promise that, but they really aren't looking out for our best interests."

Other candidates for governor of South Dakota include Congresswoman Kristi Noem and State Attorney General Marty Jackley.
