SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO AM) The latest proposed compromise for an outdoor smoking ban at all city properties in Sioux Falls would be to allow tobacco in the parking lots and exterior walkways of city parks.
City Councilor Christine Erickson gave an example at Council's informational meeting Tuesday.
"If you are at McKennan Park, not the sidewalks that go through the park, but the ones that go around the outside would be, you'd be able to have tobacco use," explained Erickson.
Council Chair Rex Rolfing liked the idea.
"Very easy to put signage up for that. Smoking only in the parking lot or no smoking products beyond this point," said Rolfing.
Council continues to brainstorm an outdoor smoking ban sought by city health officials, trying to get it just right to keep as many people happy as possible.
